The world is in midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently a new SARS-CoV-2 (2019nCOV)lineage (B.1.526) emerged in New York and spread rapidly. The New York variant B.1.526 lineage is characterised by six lineage-defining mutations in the spike protein, including D614G mutation and one at important residues in the receptor-binding domain (S477N or E484K)1.The combination of E484K or S477N with a D253G mutation of the B.1.526 lineage that might confer immune escape and the increased number of COVID-19 cases2. The position S477 is shown be S477N or S477G.
